Using Two-Column (T) Approach in Your Cover Letter:
List the job's requirements in one column and your qualifications that meet those requirements in the second column, as in this example:
Dear Dr. Riteman:While my enclosed resume provides a general outline of my work history, my problem-solving abilities and some achievements, I have also listed your current specific requirements and my applicable skills regarding your recently advertised position of mechanical engineer.
Your Requirements: My Skills: 1. B.S. Mechanical Engineering 1. B.S. Mechanical Engineering 2. Engineering internship 2. Six-month internship in professional engineering firm 3. ANSI 3. Experienced in ANSI 4. CAD experience 4. Several courses and practical experience in CAD with GE Thank you for taking the time to review my cover letter and resume. I am confident you will find I am qualified for the advertised position. I plan to call you the week of April 20 to see about setting up an interview.
