Another Missed Opportunity ... Not Closing the Sale with a Proactive Final Paragraph:
The omission of a proactive closer in the following example is even more egregious because the writer is applying for a sales position. This writer doesn't even mention an interview, let alone ask for one. If he can't close the sale for an interview in his cover letter, how can the employer expect he will close sales on the job?

Dear Mr. Salmon:
Are you seeking an experienced sales representative? Could you use an eager salesperson who achieved success while working in the competitive automobile industry? I am that salesperson.
Through my previous sales experience and my bachelor's degree in business administration, I am certain that I can help lead Newave Electronics into the 21st century. In addition, my willingness to learn, well-developed written and oral communication skills, and self-motivation all qualify me as a valuable team player.
I am very interested in the position available in the Seattle market area. If necessary, relocation to any other market area is not an impediment.
I believe my qualifications and your needs are an excellent fit. I look forward to your response. Thank you for your time and consideration.
