Avoid Negativity in Your Cover Letters

 

Negativity never has a place in a cover letter.

 

And getting off on a negative foot is especially inauspicious in your opening paragraph. The opener in the following example is truly unfortunate:

 

Dear Ms. Luttrell:
I apologize for missing you and Mr. Medgars on your recent campus visit to Rutgers University.
