JuniorJobs.com and Youth Venture have
announced a new "Dream it. Do it." partnership
to promote social entrepreneurship among youth
ages 13-20. Together these organizations will
provide opportunities for job-seeking teenagers
to become Youth Venturers and launch clubs,
organizations, or businesses that benefit their
communities. This partnership will offer youth
the support they need to create, lead and launch
their own enterprise, including materials, technical
allies, media opportunities, national recognition,
workshops, trainings, a Venturers-only Web site,
and up to $1,000 in start-up seed money.
Last year, Youth Venture launched 130 venture teams
all over the country. Sonia, aged 17 of
Springfield, VA, for example, launched Ayudemonos
(''Let's Help Each Other''). Her venture promotes organ
donation awareness throughout the Latino community
in Northern Virginia. The teenage founder of Juniorjobs,
17-year-old Saied Ghaffari, helped develop the partnership
to enable the thousands of teens who come to
juniorjobs.com the opportunity to follow his example.
Junior Jobs is an on-line job-hunting site especially
designed for teenagers. Teens can not only search
for jobs, but also have access to resources that
help them prepare for their career. Youth Venture
is a national not-for-profit organization that
invests in young people as changemakers by providing
the tools and support they need to create, lead, and
launch organizations, clubs, or businesses ("ventures")
that make a difference in the community.

This June 14 is National Work @ Home Father's Day.
Held each year on the Friday before Father's Day, it
is the one day set aside to honor and celebrate those
working fathers who have elected to work from home --
either as home-based entrepreneurs or teleworkers --
as a means to improve family interaction, professional
satisfaction -- and balance between the two. Now in
its second year, the event features the contest,
"Why I Work @ Home: A Dad's View." To enter,
work-at-home dads must submit a 250-word essay
on how working from home has improved the balance
between their family and professional lives. The prize
package is valued at more than $250.
To enter "Why I Work@Home: A Father's View," entrants must
be fathers with at least one in-home, minor child,
and must work or telework from a home office at
least one day each week. Submit entries to

In recent years, the number of e-mentoring
programs has grown as providers have sought new
ways to connect young people with mentors.
Because such programs offer great flexibility
by eliminating time and geographic barriers,
they have the potential for tapping a whole new
pool of mentors. At the same time, they present
new challenges regarding safety and effectiveness.
With a grant received last year, The National Mentoring
Partnership is providing a national clearinghouse that offers
guidelines for responsible mentoring via the Internet, how-to
information, consultation and technical assistance for
providers wishing to establish or expand e-mentoring programs,
as well opportunities for young people to locate mentors
and prospective mentors to locate young people to mentor.
