Succeeding in Job Interviews #5: Watch Your Nonverbals at the Interview

It's not just the words you say, but how you say them that can have a major impact in the job interview. We're talking about what your body language is saying to the interviewer -- your nonverbal behavior.

The last thing you'll want to be aware of during the interview is what you are saying with your nonverbal behaviors -- your body language.

A firm handshake, smile, and good eye contact at the start of the interview is a great way to begin the interview.

During the interview, remember to sit up straight and avoid distracting behaviors like tapping a pen, squirming in your chair, touching your face, brushing your hair aside, chewing gum, and the like.

Also, if possible, try and remove as many "pause words" from your speaking -- things such as uh, ah, um, like.
