The Ideal Scannable Resume
Place your name and address at the top of each page of
resume on its own line. Use standard (primary) address
format below your name. List each phone number on its own
line.
Use well-known major headings (e.g., Career Objective,
Career Summary, Education, Experience, etc.).
Use boldface and/or all capital letters for section headings.
Boldface should be avoided in all other areas.
Medium should be a laser printed original or high quality
photocopy.
Printed on plain white paper. Scanning accuracy is impacted
by color paper. Applies to cover letter and resume.
No two-sided resumes.
Use a standard, non-fancy typeface/font. Examples are:
Courier, Times New Roman, etc. Use a font size of 10 to 14
points.
Avoid vertical/horizontal lines and boxes, and page or section
borders.
Avoid folds and creases. Mail in an 9" x 12" envelope.
Do not use staples. Paperclip if you need to keep pages
together.
Do not attach business cards, transcripts or certificates.
We generally do not scan faxed resumes.
Additionally, since each professional discipline contains its own
"buzzwords," you will want to be sure to include all areas (words,
phrases, acronyms, skills, professional designations, etc.) with which
you have experience.
