Resume Lite Tutorial for Job-Seekers:
How to Edit and Polish Your Job-Search Resume
Tips for Getting Started on Your Job-Search Resume
Brainstorm about your key experiences and accomplishments -- in actual work experiences as well as volunteering.
Develop an outline of major headings:
- Identification: Name, Phone, Email, City, State
- Qualifications Summary/Headline/Branding Statement
- Experience
- Job Title
- Company, location (city, state)
- Dates of employment
- Key accomplishments
- Education
- Degree, major, minors
- Educational institution, location (city, state)
- Honors and awards
- GPA? (overall vs. in major)
- Other headings, if necessary
Education or experience first? For students (undergraduate or graduate), education goes first; for job-seekers, experience comes first.
Edit, edit, edit -- work on polishing your resume into a cohesive marketing document.
Solicit others -- colleagues, mentors, professors, friends -- to review/critique your resume.
