    How to use the Internet to research companies to prepare for job interviews

    While you may have conducted some research on companies when you were deciding which ones to target in your job search, you’ll probably want to do more in-depth research to prepare for interviews at your targeted companies. These links can help with that research.

    For example, use search engines to type in the name of specific companies you want to learn more about through exploring their Web pages. You can use the Search Engines page of Quintessential Careers to do this type of searching.

    Researching Companies on the Internet -- A Tutorial is a step-by-step tutorial on using more than 50 free online resources for researching companies.

    Searching for Company Information is an extremely comprehensive guide that addresses questions usually asked in a company analysis. Especially helpful in offering tips for finding info about private companies.

    Experience.com has profiles of many companies.

    Wetfeet.com provides more than 1,600 snapshots of companies: history, business, profitability, and jobs.

    Vault.com is another popular site for company profiles.

    The Clearinghouse includes guides on topics pertaining to all aspects of commercial enterprise.

    Hoover's Online offers searchable databases of company and industry information. The Hoover's site is most useful as a specialized search engine for locating corporate Web sites. Also has job listings. Hoover's also produces, Company Profiles of thousands of major companies accessed through a subscription fee. However, free (but abbreviated) versions of the Profiles, called Company Capsules, are available free at: Hoover's Online Search.

    EDGAR Database is a financial/investor-oriented company database.

    Xplore Business has links to several of the databases listed above and some additional sites helpful for researching companies and industries.

    The New York Public Library's How to Find U.S. Company Information provides a detailed list of resources for finding company information -- both on and off the Net.

    Annual reports are excellent sources of company information. The Annual Report Gallery contains a complete listing of annual reports published on the Net. Public Register's Annual Report Service offers a similar listing.
