Informational Interviewing Tutorial

Be Prepared to Take Notes at an Informational Interview

Pretend you are a reporter. You don't need to write down everything, but you may encounter names, phone numbers or other information that you may want to remember. You could also use a recording device -- such as a smartphone, iPad, or tape record -- at the interview, but you must get the interviewee's permission.

Be enthusiastic and show interest. Employ an informal dialogue during the interview. Be direct and concise with your questions and answers and do not ramble. Have good eye contact and posture. Be positive in your remarks, and reflect a good sense of humor.
