Sample Closing Paragraphs for Cover Letters: Closing Paragraphs for Targeting Internships

Printer-Friendly Version

by Katharine Hansen, Ph.D.

What's the best way to end a cover letter? The closing paragraph of your cover letter should accomplish at least two goals:
  • Thanking the hiring decision-maker for considering you.
  • Suggesting an interview and proactively indicating that you plan to follow up your letter (and when you say you plan to follow up the letter, you need to do so) to schedule the interview.

Here we present our collection of job-seeker cover letter closers that work for students targeting internships.

Closing Paragraphs for Cover Letters Targeting Internships

I want to put my contributions into action as a resourceful, competent team player at [name of employer], and am looking forward to discussing this internship with you. I will be in contact at the beginning of next week to set up an interview.

Please consider my request and resume as application into your internship program. I will call you within a week to schedule an interview. I would like to thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to meeting with you soon.

I am convinced [name of employer] would benefit from choosing me for this internship. I look forward to interviewing with you and will contact you to schedule a time to meet.

Finally, I would like to emphasize that I am not only looking for experience this summer, but for the opportunity to bring my skills and talents to the internship. I will call you early next week to set up an appointment. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

I am confident that you will see from my resume that I am well equipped to fill the position and have both the skills and experience to immediately contribute to the organization. I will contact your assistantsoon to set up an appointment to meet and further discuss how my background would fit your intern needs. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I would like to speak with you further about a summer internship in your company. I will follow this letter up with a phone call. I look forward to meeting with you.

I know you won't regret talking to me about an internship. I'm eager to bring samples of my work to an interview. I'd like to give you a call soon to set up a meeting. You can reach me at [phone number] in the meantime.

Can we pursue this possibility further? I will contact you soon to verify that you received my resume, answer any preliminary questions you may have, and arrange an appointment to talk about an internship. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss how I can serve your company in an internship position.
