What’s the best way to end a cover letter? The closing paragraph of your cover letter should accomplish at least two goals:

  • Thanking the hiring decision-maker for considering you.
  • Suggesting an interview and proactively indicating that you plan to follow up your letter (and when you say you plan to follow up the letter, you need to do so) to schedule the interview.

Closing Paragraphs for a Relocating Job-Seeker

I hope that on paper I resemble your ideal candidate. I’d very much like to discuss my qualifications further. I will contact you soon to arrange a phone interview and ultimately a meeting during an upcoming trip to [name of employer’s city]. Should you have any questions before that time, you may reach me at [phone number].

I’d like to contact you before visiting your area to pinpoint a time when we could meet to discuss the excellent fit between my background and your needs. Thanks so much for your time and attention.

I am eager to talk with you about how my qualifications would be consistent with your needs. I will contact you soon to arrange a phone interview and ultimately a meeting during an upcoming trip to [name of city]. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Because I will be in [name of city] from [date] to [date], I would like to arrange an interview during this visit. I will contact you by phone or e-mail to schedule this interview.

Between my work and life experience, along a solid education, I am certain that I am the right person for the job. I would like to further discuss the expectations involved in the position. I will call you in about a week to make sure that you have received this material, and that you have all of the information you need. I will be in your area [date] and would like to schedule a meeting at that time. Thanks for your consideration.

I’d like to meet with you to discuss adding value to [name of employer] as I’ve done for my previous employers. Please note I will be in the [name of city] area [date] through [date], and hope that we can meet during that week. I will contact you in the near future to arrange a mutually convenient meeting. I thank you for considering me for this position and look forward to meeting with you during my trip to [name of city].

Within a few days of your receiving this letter I’ll contact you to arrange a preliminary phone interview in advance of a face-to-face meeting during a visit to your area. I am looking forward to meeting with you and bringing my skills to your organization.

I am convinced that it would be mutually beneficial for us to meet. I will contact you shortly before I arrive in [name of city] to arrange an appointment. Should you wish to speak to me in the meantime, you may reach me at [phone number]. Thank you for considering my qualifications.
