The Federal government offers a program to need-based college students that assists in paying college costs. The Federal Work-Study Program, offered at approximately 3,400 participating postsecondary institutions, pays eliigible students an hourly wage at least equal to the Federal Minimum Wage for part-time employment at some department/division of the school. Undergraduate students are paid by the hour. Unlike a loan, grant, or scholarship, money is not paid before you earn it -- and you only earn it by working. You can obtain a work-study award -- if you qualify -- when you apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA and indicating on your application that you want work-study assistance.
