Empowering College-Bound Students
High School Senior Year Activities
Here's what college-bound high school students can expect in your senior year.
If you thought your junior year of high school was tough, your senior year is a year filled with more college planning and the anxiety that comes from waiting to hear back from the colleges to which you applied.
The mail from colleges that started in your junior year will continue through the beginning of the year, but should begin to slow midway through the year.
While your junior year grades were of vital importance since they are the last full set of grades colleges will see, you want to avoid a senior slump as much as possible. Colleges will still ask for your final grades -- and many scholarships and grants are based on scholastic accomplishment.
As you finalize your college choices and complete applications, you'll need to think about key people -- teachers, guidance counselor, and others -- who you'll want to ask to write recommendation letters.
You should still be thinking about careers and majors, conducting more research and possibly shadowing professionals or even securing an internship.
Finally, once January rolls around, it's time to get serious about your family's finances, complete the FAFSA, and begin researching multiple sources of financial aid.
