Proofreading Your College Application Essay(s)
The final step in completing your college essay is a thorough proofreading to eliminate any errors.
Proofreading is a lost art -- lost in the world of spellcheckers and weak grammar rules.
Your job is to make sure your essay sparkles like a new car -- no errors of any kind. No typos, no misspellings, no grammatical errors, and no factual errors. In other words... NO ERRORS OF ANY KIND.
Here's a scary spelling error that we just saw in an application essay: instead of using plateau in a statement, the student wrote it as "plat owe." Certainly spellcheck missed it, but how could it be missed in the proofreading stage? More common errors involve similar words... such as there, they're, and their.
Again, it might be useful to have others read your essay -- but this time, instead of reading for content, ask them to review the composition for any kinds of errors.
After the final, final review, correct any errors and insert the essay(s) into your application.
