Choosing Proper Career Fair Attire
It's a cliche, but a cliche for a reason. Job-seekers
must dress for success for all interviews, including career fairs.
And what is the proper career fair attire? For most career fairs --
certainly all professional career fairs -- it consists of a clean-cut,
well-fitting, conservative look featuring darker colors (such as navy, black, slate).
Sometimes younger job-seekers make the mistake of wearing something that looks
more suited for happy hour at a popular club than it does for an interview. And it
is always safer to err on the side of dressing too conservatively. For women,
this means keeping skirt length to around the knee.
Besides the clothing issues, your strategy should be to cover all (or as many as possible) visible
tattoos and display minimal piercings. Keep jewelry to a minimum. And polish
those shoes. Wear little or no cologne/perfume.
