Whereas, we are today celebrating the 10th anniversary of Quintessential Careers and QuintCareers.com, a successful Web site that grew from a small book about writing cover letters that Dr. Randall Hansen wrote with his wife Katharine, and Whereas, Dr. Hansen decided to expand the book’s scope in order to provide a resource where people could learn how to market themselves to employers; and Whereas, he founded Quintessential Careers and then launched QuintCareers.com in 1996 with about 50 pages of content on Stetson University’s Web server; and Whereas, QuintCareers.com’s early focus on helping new Stetson graduates find employment quickly grew, and resources were added to help adult job-seekers; teens; and those facing various employment barriers, such as women and minorities; and Whereas, ten years later, QuintCareers.com has over 3,000 pages of content and more than a million visitors a month, has won more than 100 awards and honors and is now ranked among the best career and employment Web sites by those in the industry; and Whereas, thousands of college career centers, businesses, governments, and organizations now link to one or more of QuintCareers.com’s pages, making it one of the most linked-to-career sites on the Web and a true Internet powerhouse; Now, therefore be it resolved, that we proclaim Friday, November 3, 2006, as Quintessential Careers Day at Stetson University in recognition of the tremendous success of QuintCareers.com and the hard work and enterprise of Dr. Randall and Kathy Hansen, School of Business Administration faculty members and entrepreneurs.
