    Feature Article: Web-based Resume is Just One Tool

    Writing in the online version of Computerworld magazine, freelance writer Steve Alexander recently made the bold statement that "the HTML resume, which comes complete with links and graphics, is a step in the wrong direction for. . . job applicants."

    Alexander never quite defines "HTML resume," but most people would define it as Web-based resume. It's a resume that resides on the Web, and a Web-based resume can range from quite ordinary to very elaborate.

    Q Tips: Quick and Quintessential Job Tips
    How many people should you network with during your job search? Kate Wendleton of the Five O'Clock Club, says the average job hunter meets with 60 people during the course of a search.

    Interested in locating headhunters (executive recruiters)? Contact the Recruiting & Search Report (904-235-3733) for its inexpensive directories covering 5,600 headhunters classified by industry/functional specialty. Consultant News (603-585-2200) publishes annual editions of The Directory of Executive Recruiters, which is available in bookstores or from the publisher.

    Consider joining Toastmasters to bolster your job search. This international organization serves as far more than a venue for networking. The group helps people overcome the fear of public speaking and learn skills to enhance success. It's especially good for those who are very shy about networking. Members of Toastmasters receive constructive evaluation. It's an effective way to build confidence while building your network. Toastmaster chapters are all over the world (check you local newspaper or phone book for one near you), but if you can't find a local branch, the Toastmasters International Web page tells you how to start one.
