Write Your Way to a Higher GPA Authors Present Gift to Stetson University Business Students

DeLand, FL -- Stetson University Marketing Professor Dr. Randall Hansen and Katharine Hansen presented copies of their popular book, Write Your Way to a Higher GPA, to 150 Stetson students taking Freshman Business Experience courses as part of the beginning of the celebration of the sixth anniversary of Quintessential Careers, which first came online in November 1996.

"We were inspired to do this because of an experience I had with a student last year," said Hansen, who co-wrote the book with his wife, Katharine Hansen. "A parent approached me about her child's difficulties with writing and I gave her a copy of the book. Whether he took the advice to heart or not, his grades started improving and the parent called to thank me and said she wished every college student had access to it.

"That gave us the idea of donating the books. We knew we couldn't make a difference to every college student everywhere, but we could make a difference for all our first-year business students by donating the books," he said.

The Hansens made the presention of the books on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, in the Rinker Auditorium at the Lynn Business Center.

First published in 1997, Write Your Way to a Higher GPA has sold about 4,500 copies. It offers students techniques for coping with the fear of writing, as well as a guide to on-line research and high-tech library research tools, tips on writing and rewriting, suggestions beyond writing to help students improve their grades and a list of resources on writing style and grammar.

Randall Hansen also serves as publisher and Katharine Hansen as editor of QuintZine, a free bi-weekly career and job-hunting e-zine published by Quintessential Careers. She has also taught business communications courses at Stetson.
